| Kindness is the secret. My ideal language is my Guru’s language of kindness, most colloquial and yet most expressive. Kindness is often expressed through the thought of the person. Kindness is an interior disposition that makes a person place other people before themselves. It is not a fancy luxury we allow ourselves to have but a fundamental responsibility as humans. In a world torn apart due to conflicts of various nature and intensity, an act of kindness that you can show to others can make a world of difference because there is no tranquilizer in the world more effective than a few kind words and deeds. You may not be able to make a difference to the whole world in your lifetime; but an act of kindness can definitely make a difference to the person it is shown. “Nothing multiplies so much as kindness,” says John Ray, . Therefore, it is up to you to make a decision that no one ever comes to you without coming away better and happier. Always remember that the best portion of a good life is little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love. Strength is in goodness and in purity. You cannot believe in God until you know what kindness is. Rotary provides us hundreds of opportunities to serve and help others. Make use of your time in Rotary and be kind to all you touch. Shower your love to mankind and make the world know we believe in Service Above Self. I recollect the poem by Lord Tennyson. To adapt the verse in this script I should say that being kind to others is a necessity. “Ours not to reason why, ours to do and die.” See yourself standing on the neck of the poor. Then you are not fit to be called men. As Swami Vivekananda said, “Money is not power, but goodness and kindness are. Practice and see how it works all over the world.” |
