Dear Rotary Leaders ,As the year progresses and the glow of satisfaction radiates your joy as you serve, it may be time to evaluate and re-evaluate your success stories. The need of the community not only changes from time to time but some urgent needs crop up and unless you measure the needs by the tape of your vision, you may miss a chance to gain the confidence and love of the community.My tailor knows my measurements and my likes and dislikes of the prevalent style. Once, when I approached him for a suit, he asked me to step into the cubicle for measurements.
“But you already have my measurements taken only two months ago,” I said. “I need your measurements every time you come for your clothes. In order to ensure a perfect fit, I need to check your measurements every time.”If we want a perfect fit in our service projects, we must take measurements of all the data every time we go to the community. If there is a change in the needs for service, we must modify our efforts and directions. A cry for help, if unheeded, will not only dent the confidence of the community towards Rotary, but you will miss the bus for strengthening your image and that is worse than non-action.
“Which is the most important part of your body,” asked the mother to her lovely daughter. The daughter tried different answers, but the mother was not satisfied. At last the daughter gave up and asked the mother to give the answer. The mother answered, “The most important body part is your shoulder.” The daughter asked, “Is it because it holds up my head?” The mother replied, “No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry.”
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it. People will forget what you said … people will forget what you did … but people will never forget how you made them feel.
I urge you to be alive to the changing needs and changing measurement of service. Ensure a perfect fit.
