FROM “I WISH” TO “I WILL”

Home Messages FROM “I WISH” TO “I WILL”

Many people go through life saying “someday” or “I wish.” They dream, they hope, but they hesitate to act. What holds them back is not lack of talent or opportunity, but lack of will.

A wish is only a thought. A will is a decision. When we say “I will,” we accept responsibility and take action. This is the spirit on which Rotary stands.

Who would have believed that polio—a disease that once crippled millions of children—could almost be eliminated from the world? Many may have thought it was impossible. But Rotary did not say, “We wish polio would end.” Rotary said, “We will end polio.” And with that will, supported by commitment, partnerships, and tireless service, history was changed.

As we look at the Rotary calendar, ten months of this Rotary year are already behind us. It has been a period filled with service, learning, and impact. Yet, it is also a moment for reflection. There may still be unfinished projects, ideas waiting to take shape, or opportunities we have not fully explored. These remaining two months are not just a conclusion—they are a powerful chance to elevate our efforts and leave a lasting mark.

Think of this time as the final overs of a T-20 match, where every ball matters and the outcome can change dramatically. The last two overs often define the game, demanding focus, energy, and determination beyond the ordinary. In the same way, let us give more than our best—let us give better than our best. Let us act with urgency, passion, and purpose to ensure that this Rotary year ends on a high note, creating memories and milestones that we will be proud of.

Every great Rotary achievement has followed the same path—strong belief followed by strong action. When we replace “I wish” with “I will,” our confidence grows, our focus sharpens, and our energy is directed toward results. We step out of our comfort zones and begin to make things happen.

Nothing is impossible when there is the will to make it possible. Rotary’s journey proves that determined people can achieve what once seemed unthinkable.

So, let us as Rotarians continue to think big. Let us accept challenging projects, bold ideas, and difficult goals. Let us not be afraid of the scale of the task.

Because when Rotarians say “We will”, the world listens—and change happens.

Let us not wish for a better tomorrow. Let us will it—and make it happen.
