Your Action Needed Dear Zonal Co-ordinators Today, we read that more than ten million (One Crore) vaccine doses have been given in just 34 days across India. The Health Minister, Government of India, Mr. Harsh Vardhan has appealed to the medical community and the frontline workers to come forward and get inoculated and has assured that the vaccines were safe and immunogenic. Rotary in India has formed the Covid Vaccination Task Force to help the Government overcome this public health challenge. Pro- ducing the vaccines in India is a major milestone in making a self-reliant nation (Aatmanirbhar Bharat). The Rotary leaders in India selected you as the Zonal Co-ordinators of the Rotary s Task Force, because without question, you were considered as crown jewels among the volunteers who can take up this massive challenge in fighting Covid 19 and saving millions of lives. You are an elite group. I urge you to take up this changing role you are required to do now and ensure that qual- ity and focus are maintained in bringing Rotary closer to the Government in the fight against Covid. The Rotary s Task Force has been formed just for this. We have all come together for just that purpose. It took our entire volunteer force to eradicate Polio and you made it possible. I want you to make history happen again by taking the fight against Covid seriously. The Government of India is deciding to ramp up the vaccination sessions to 50,000 a day and we have to be Future Ready. Re- ports say that only eight States accounted for over 57 percent of the total vaccination doses administered so far. The Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu has reported to have said that it would be prudent to give vac- cines to those eager to take it. Plans are afoot to start vaccinating the priority population groups of those above 50 years of age by early March 2021. Please remember, it is Rotary which is wanting to offer its services to the Government in this most important healthcare pro- gramme and we are sure that the Government will seek Rotary s assistance. We see this as a great opportunity to Show Rotary Cares. The opportunities open to us now cannot be wasted. Please talk to the District Governors, DGEs and DGNs in your assigned zone. Co-ordinate with them to organise meetings with all the clubs in their districts either virtually, or if possible, in person, by following all the safety protocols that the Government has suggested for any assembly. Before the first week of March 2021, every Rotary club in India should know about the Task Force and what services Rotary Clubs are required to offer to the local government. The type of help the Governments may need has already been mentioned in the letter given by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Your passion for service, eloquence, skills and fierce intelligence must be in display and Rotary leaders from around the world have told us that it is good to know that you guys are on the ground and it is so inspiring. I couldn t be prouder of our work to- gether and I can t thank you enough for your support.
