THIS IS HOW I WISH TO CELEBRATE MY LIFE

Home › Messages › THIS IS HOW I WISH TO CELEBRATE MY LIFE

Every morning I wake up, I receive God’s priceless gift of another day. Every sunrise is a fresh opportunity to love more, serve more, learn more, and become a better human being. To me, life itself is the greatest celebration.

As I look back with profound gratitude, I realize how abundantly God has blessed me. I have been fortunate to enjoy good health, a loving and caring family, wonderful friends, and countless well-wishers who have enriched my life’s journey. Through Rotary, I have had the privilege of meeting extraordinary people across the world. The affection, trust and encouragement I have received from so many, including compassionate souls like Rajashree ji and countless others, are among the greatest blessings of my life.

Among God’s finest gifts are my daughter and my son, their life partners, and our beloved grandchildren. They have filled our lives with love, warmth, and purpose. They are always there whenever Nayantara and I need them, caring not out of obligation but out of love. Their affection and unwavering support give us immense happiness and peace of mind.

As I reflect on life’s journey, one prayer rises above all others. Long after I am gone, may they continue to remain united—bound together by love, mutual respect, understanding and compassion. May they always stand by one another through moments of joy and adversity, cherish family above all else, and pass on these values to future generations. Nothing would give me greater peace than knowing that our family continues to live with love, harmony and respect for one another.

If there is one thing that has given meaning to my life, it is service. I consider myself truly blessed that God gave me opportunities to play a small role in India’s historic journey to becoming polio-free, to serve our nation during the COVID pandemic as Chairman of the Rotary India COVID Task Force, and to participate in humanitarian projects that have touched countless lives. Whatever recognition I have received from the Central Government, State Governments, Municipal Corporations, Rotary, and other institutions, I accept with humility and gratitude. They are not achievements to be celebrated, but reminders that God chose me as an instrument of service.

For me, celebrating life means accepting every moment with gratitude, performing every duty with sincerity, standing beside friends in their moments of joy and sorrow, offering my time, experience and resources to those in need, encouraging others to realize their potential, helping them prosper, and leaving every place a little better than I found it.

It means remaining devoted to my family, nurturing relationships with love and kindness, embracing spirituality with humility, learning continuously, welcoming new ideas with an open mind, and always striving to do good in the world.

Above all, it means living the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self—not for recognition, but because service is the most beautiful expression of gratitude to God.

When I can end each day knowing that someone smiled because I cared, someone found hope because I served, a child received a better future, a friend felt supported, and my family felt my love, I know I have truly celebrated life.

With God’s grace, I pray that this celebration of faith, family, friendship, service, gratitude and love continues for as long as He wishes.
