BRINGING RELIEF TO RURAL WOMEN Dear Rotarians , It was a Sunday well spent, indeed ! I had the good fortune to be part of a Rotary project that has truly impacted the lives of women and girl children in Dist. Thane, Maharashtra, India. Rotary Club of Thane Hills, RI Dist.3142 has partnered with Rotary Club of Cherry Hills, Moorestown Breakfast Rotary Ckub and Garden State of Cherry Hill RI Dist.7505 USA for a Global Grant Project, under which more than 750 rural households in Thane, Shahapur and other areas have been provided with individual toilet blocks. This project has brought immense relief to women and girl children who previously, had to risk their health and lives, walking a considerable distance under cover of darkness, to ease themselves. On 5th of January 2020, I participated in the handing-over ceremony of 170 toilet blocks to the villagers of Aghai. The men, women and children of Aghai welcomed us warmly into their midst and shared with us their joy at being direct beneficiaries of such a thoughtful Rotary project. I congratulate President Dr. Radhika Bhondve, Project leader PP Atul Bhide and all members of Rotary Club of Thane Hills for being true to The Rotary Foundation s objective of doing good in the world .
