THE ROTARY CLUB

Home Messages THE ROTARY CLUB

The Rotary Club What is a Rotary Club? Essentially, a Rotary Club is an arrangement to serve the people. It is also an arrangement to live and create a spiritual refuge in the club that can bring peace and happiness in the community around you. The Rotary Club itself is not important. The focus should be on what members make out of it later. Whether it is your body, your mind or your life energies ~ the more you use them, the better they get. The Rotary Club enables you to use all these faculties to the fullest potential. Rotary Clubs must be formed according to the needs of the community. If members make arrangements in the form of Rotary Clubs according to their means or someone else's idea how a Rotary Club should be then it will not be a home. A Rotary Club is not the building or just collection of individuals. It includes all the other arrangements - your wife or husband, your children, your parents, your neighbours and the neighbourhood. The idea of joining a Rotary Club in a town or city, instead of living alone it is to make our lives meaningful and easier. The Rotary Club gives you the infrastructure to be inclusive in a community. For some members this arrangement may not be working right now and they leave Rotary and probably choose an arrangement that is convenient for whatever purpose they live for. What makes a Rotary Club a Rotary Club? Everyone is here because they want to be here - they are not trapped here. You need to create this situation in every Rotary club. Just see if any member is feeling trapped or unhappy with his membership in your club. There will be people who feel that way and you don't even know. They may be speaking to their friends and other elsewhere, not to others in the club. They may be suffocated in some way in the club. If you find people are feeling suffocated in the club, open larger windows for them or put them in positions they will be comfortable. In the Rotary Club, the leader needs to make sure that everyone is there because they want to be there. Once this atmosphere is created in the club, it becomes a home. Even if there is one person who does not want to be there, he or she will create a certain atmosphere and a vibe that is difficult to live with for others. Every Rotary member must check if his or her club is the place they want to be. If not find out why. If it is see why. The Rotary Club can be engineered in such a way that it feels like a wonderful place for every member to do their sadhanas (spiritual practices and services), to live well, to be peaceful and to be joyful. Rotary club should not become a hellhole for the members. Every Rotary Club is an arrangement that members made themselves. No one made it and it must work the way you want it to serve the community. Rotarians are soldiers of humanity. They should make their home, their club an arrangement for growth and service. Ashok
