Respected Immediate Past District Governor Sridhar , R I Director Nagesh , Past District Governors, District Officers, Club Presidents, award recipients, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen…
Good evening!
It is indeed a great honour and privilege to be with all of you this evening. My sincere thanks to the District Governor and the organising team for inviting me to be part of this wonderful celebration of Rotary service.
Whenever I visit Bengaluru, I return with admiration and inspiration.
Bengaluru is rightly known as the Garden City of India, the Silicon Valley of India, and one of the country’s most vibrant centres of innovation and learning. It is a city where centuries-old traditions coexist beautifully with cutting-edge technology. Here, ideas become innovations, dreams become enterprises, and talent finds endless opportunities.
Yet, beyond its achievements in technology and business, what impresses me most is the spirit of its people—their warmth, humility, generosity, and willingness to contribute to society. Those are values that resonate deeply with Rotary.
This city has also made an extraordinary contribution to Rotary. It has nurtured exceptional leaders, launched impactful humanitarian projects, and strengthened The Rotary Foundation through remarkable generosity. Bengaluru has consistently demonstrated that when committed people unite with a shared purpose, extraordinary things happen.
Friends,
Tonight is an evening of celebration.
Awards are not merely certificates or trophies. They are symbols of commitment, perseverance, teamwork, and compassion. Behind every award lies a story—a child who received education, a patient whose life was saved, a village that received clean drinking water, a family that regained hope, or a community whose future became brighter because Rotarians cared.
Every recognition reminds us that service never goes unnoticed.
At the same time, awards should not become our destination. They should become milestones that inspire us to dream bigger, serve better, and reach higher.
One of the greatest strengths of Rotary has always been its volunteers.
Unlike many organisations, Rotarians receive no salary for the countless hours they dedicate to service. Their reward is the smile of a child, the gratitude of a family, the confidence of a student, and the satisfaction of making a difference.
Recognition therefore becomes important—not because we seek applause, but because appreciation inspires excellence.
A few words of appreciation can motivate a Rotarian to serve with even greater enthusiasm.
Friends,
The world today is changing faster than ever before.
Technology is transforming the way we live.
Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we work.
Communication is instantaneous.
Young people think differently, learn differently, and connect differently.
But despite all these changes, one thing remains unchanged.
Human kindness.
Compassion will never become outdated.
Integrity will never become old-fashioned.
Service will never lose its relevance.
That is why Rotary remains as relevant today as it was 120 years ago.
The methods may change.
Projects may change.
Technology may change.
But our purpose remains unchanged—to create hope, transform lives, and build peace.
As Rotarians, we have another important responsibility.
It is not enough to do good.
We must also let the world know about the good we do.
Every successful project should tell a story.
Every beneficiary should become an ambassador for Rotary.
A strong public image attracts volunteers, partners, donors, and future leaders.
People cannot support what they do not know.
Friends,
The future of Rotary depends upon our ability to inspire the next generation.
Young professionals are looking for purpose.
They want to contribute.
They want meaningful friendships.
They want opportunities to make an impact.
Rotary offers all of these.
Our responsibility is to welcome them with open minds, involve them in meaningful service, respect their ideas, and allow them to lead.
Rotary must never become an organisation where experience suppresses enthusiasm.
Instead, experience should mentor enthusiasm.
When wisdom and youthful energy work together, Rotary becomes unstoppable.
Friends,
One lesson that Rotary has taught me over the years is this:
No one can change the whole world.
But each one of us can change someone’s world.
A child who can now see because of an eye operation.
A heart patient who receives a life-saving surgery.
A student who receives a scholarship.
A village that receives clean water.
For that person, Rotary has changed the entire world.
That is the true power of service.
As we honour our achievers tonight, let us remember that every successful project began with one simple decision:
Someone decided to care.
Someone decided to act.
Someone refused to walk away.
That is Rotary.
Friends,
Allow me to leave you with a simple thought.
Great organisations are not remembered because of the buildings they constructed.
They are remembered because of the lives they transformed.
Years from now, people may not remember our titles.
They may not remember the offices we held.
But they will always remember how we made them feel, how we served them, and how we improved their lives.
That is the legacy of Rotary.
Let us continue to strengthen our public image.
Let us build stronger clubs.
Let us embrace innovation while preserving our values.
Let us inspire young leaders.
Let us continue to live our timeless motto—Service Above Self.
Congratulations to every award recipient.
Congratulations to every club represented here.
And my heartfelt appreciation to the District Governor and the entire district leadership for recognising excellence and encouraging every Rotarian to aim even higher.
May this district continue to grow in membership, strengthen The Rotary Foundation, undertake impactful projects, and remain a shining example for Rotary across the world.
Thank you.
God bless you all, and God bless Rotary.
