FELICITATION OF DR. Bharat Pandya AND Kamal on 16th April 2018 in Kolkata
GRATITUDES…….
CONGRATULATIONS TO Dr Bharat Pandya and Kamal
It’s a society where teamwork, loyalty, and communication are the norm rather than the exception.
Everyone contributes and everyone thrives. This is the fundamental principle of Rotary.
Some say leaders are born. We say they’re made.
In Rotary, we make leaders over the years by giving them opportunities at every level to lead their clubs, the districts, their zones and the Rotary World.
We help them to develop the qualities of leadership that is clubbed with ethical behaviour.
Rtn. Bharat Pandya and Rtn. Kamal Sanghvi are such leaders who have worked their way up the pyramid with sheer dedication and hard work to develop Rotary in their region.
AN IDEAL LEADER…..
Who will be the ideal leader? This question has been debated from the times of Mahabharat.
Lord Krishna says that the ideal leader is a person with equanimity.
I have known Bharat and Kamal for the last many years and have always found both of them to be such persons .
Both are dispassionate Leaders , even-minded and not hungry for positions or power.
Both have distinctive professional background. What is common in their profession is that they can see what is hidden inside.
Bharat, as a doctor and Kamal, as a financial wizard, can see through the thick outer layers of anything that is presented to them and diagnose what is inside. This will help them to separate the chaff from the grain and take the correct remedial steps without bias.
Both of them can catch the attention of the audience when they go to the stage with wit and humour and this is what is truly needed from a leader.
Doing the right things is important for both of you rather than getting stuck with the nitty-gritty’s of some senseless disputes that can erupt here or there.
Make no mistake – leading with passion inspires world change and so also in Rotary.
It is possible to accomplish something good on your own. But to accomplish something great you need a team. I am sure that this will not be driven by age-old formulas but by bold thinking on how to assign the correct job to the correct person.
Many Rotarians just lose steam half-way when they see that this was not the organisation they were shown when they joined.
In the words of one of them, “Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill-will.
Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.” Both of you have the capacity to identify and reach out to such talented members and use their knowledge and skills for the benefit of Rotary.
I have seen both of you as District Governors and how you attended to the affairs of the district, especially when your correct sense of judgment was needed.
I know that you both believe that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
This is very true when the members in over 3,000 clubs are closely watching your every move and grading you in their own scale.
Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. This is the universal law.
Bharat as a very learned person in the medical profession and Kamal in the field of Finance both are enlightened persons who have their senses firmly under control, just like King Janaka.
Being a dispassionate leader in Rotary, Bharat and Kamal will be able to deal with matters in a fair manner in the context of Rotary’s diversity in India.
Their ability to work with all sections of the society will provide a platform for membership growth and development of Rotary in India.
It is said that a leader must have a desires to create the ground for action. The desire to lead must be coupled with an equally strong desire to serve. And Bharat and Kamal have these qualities in ample measure.
As a member of many RI committees, Bharat and Kamal have demonstrated their leadership skills. It is said that leaders are best when people barely know that they exist.
Both Bharat and Kamal have guided their work without ever thrusting their views on anyone and the results have always been wonderful.
Both are men of vision, men with clarity of thought and healthy ideas. Regardless of the circumstances, they have the power to show leadership. Whatever assignment they take on they always play it to their peak abilities.
No wonder assignments in Rotary chase them and not the other way around. I have seen both work as Regional Membership Co ordinator , Member on the MEMBERSHIP Committee, Training Leaders , District representative in the Council on Legislation , RRFC , Chair of the Institute in Kolkata , Chairman of DISHA in Mumbai and like that .
Bharat & Kamal know how to work and influence people around them like a superstar. They always come up with an instant strategy when needed to build a great team and become persons who everyone else admires.
As they take the mantle of RI Director in 2019-21 Bharat and Kamal will devise real world ways to defeat stress and build an unbeatable mindset, unleash their full energy and will also balance their personal lives and profession.
Bharat and Kamal ‘s willingness to work 24×7 inspires others. Their readiness to leave everyone they meet better than what they found them encourages people to join Rotary and give even more of their life to helping others.
Borrowing the words of Mahatma Gandhi, I must say that Bharat and Kamal “In a gentle way they have shaken the way Rotary works here,”
It is said that leaders are always improving and raising their bar on how superbly they can perform and how quickly they can move.
Every Rotarian must hatch on to leaders such as Bharat & Kamal , and other great people in our country and realise their true potential and become the true service oriented persons they were built to become when they joined this movement.
Dear Bharat and Kamal ,
THE SIZE OF YOUR SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED BY THE STRENGTH OF YOUR DESIRE, THE SIZE OF YOUR DREAM AND HOW YOU HANDLE YOUR DIS APPOINTMENTS.
AND BHARAT & Kamal , LET OTHERS LEAD SMALL LIFE, BUT NOT YOU.
LET OTHERS ARGUE ON SMALL THINGS, BUT NOT YOU.
LET OTHERS CRY ON SMALL HURT, BUT NOT YOU.
LET OTHERS LEAVE THEIR FUTURE IN SOME ONE ELSE’S HANDS ,BUT NOT YOU.
Rotarians in India have high hopes on both of you which I am sure you will not dis appoint them because you know that LEADERSHIP IS NOT JUST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO BUT WHAT YOU CAN INSPIRE, ENCOURAGE AND EMPOWER OTHERS TO DO.
And finally to both of you , Nayantara joins me in making a small prayer,
MAY THE STARS CARRY YOUR SADNESS AWAY,
MAY THE FLOWERS FILL YOUR HEART WITH BEAUTY,
MAY HOPE FOR EVER WIPE AWAY YOUR TEARS,
AND ABOVE ALL, MAY SILENCE MAKE YOU STRONG.
WE WISH ALL THE VERY BEST TO YOU BHARAT & KAMAL AND OF COURSE DR MADHVI AND SONAL INCLUDED NOT ONLY FOR YOUR TERM AS THE DIRECTOR OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL BUT IN EVERY ENDEAVOUR , TODAY, TOMORROW AND ALWAYS.
A small Urdu couplet …
