Respected dignitaries, distinguished Rotarians from Nepal and India, ladies and gentlemen, It is both a privilege and a deeply emotional moment for me, as a Rotarian from India, to stand here today and join you in honoring an extraordinary leader — our dear friend from Kathmandu — on his election as Director of Rotary International for the year 2027–29. This is not merely an individual achievement. This is history in the making. For the first time, Nepal — this beautiful Himalayan nation — will have its representative in Basu Dev Golyan , at this coveted global position. From the serene valleys of Kathmandu to the international corridors of Rotary leadership, this journey is nothing short of inspirational. Coming from a relatively small country in terms of Rotary membership and global representation, reaching such a distinguished office requires extraordinary credibility, unwavering commitment, and the highest level of trust from the Rotary world. His election by a very high margin speaks volumes. It reflects not only his capability but also the deep respect he commands across borders. As Rotarians from India, we feel equally proud. In Rotary, geography may define our districts, but service unites our hearts. South Asia celebrates together. When Nepal rises, we all rise. What makes this achievement even more admirable is the person behind the position. He is simplicity personified — grounded, gentle, and accessible. In an age where titles often create distance, he builds closeness. In a world that often celebrates noise, he has chosen quiet, consistent hard work. His leadership has never been about visibility; it has been about value. He reminds us that true greatness does not come from the size of one’s country, but from the size of one’s character. His journey sends a powerful message to every Rotarian — that dedication, integrity, and sustained service can take you from local club meetings to global decision-making tables. It tells every young Rotarian in Nepal — and in India — that no dream is too distant when backed by sincerity and perseverance. Today, as the districts of Nepal felicitate him, we from India stand beside you in admiration and solidarity. We celebrate not just his victory, but the spirit of Rotary that transcends borders. His leadership will not only elevate Nepal’s presence in Rotary; it will strengthen our entire region’s voice in the global Rotary movement. Dear Basu , we are proud of you — not only for achieving this prestigious office, but for achieving it while remaining humble, approachable, and deeply human. May your tenure as Director be marked by unity, innovation, and expanded humanitarian impact. May you inspire stronger collaboration across nations. And may your success encourage many more leaders to emerge from our region. On behalf of Rotarians from India, Nayantara joins me in extending our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you and your gracious lady Kumud for a highly successful and impactful term. The Rotary world has placed its trust in you. We have placed our pride in you. Congratulations once again.
